Por lo tanto, una determinaci\u00f3n clara de las sustancias l\u00edquidas s\u00f3lo puede tener \u00e9xito con las mezclas binarias (mezclas formadas por dos compuestos).<\/p>\n<p>En la pr\u00e1ctica, el \u00edndice de refracci\u00f3n determina la relaci\u00f3n de mezcla de forma bastante precisa y sencilla, incluso de las soluciones multicomponentes, ya que normalmente s\u00f3lo es necesario determinar la concentraci\u00f3n de uno de los componentes. Se trata, por tanto, de una medida cuantitativa. Para los compuestos conocidos, tambi\u00e9n se puede determinar la calidad. En el caso de, por ejemplo, el aceite de oliva o el zumo de naranja, el valor de medici\u00f3n dentro de un rango determinado corresponde a una calidad determinada.<\/p>\n<p>Existe una correlaci\u00f3n definida entre el \u00edndice de refracci\u00f3n y la composici\u00f3n de muchas soluciones de dos compuestos. El ejemplo m\u00e1s conocido de este tipo de mezcla es una soluci\u00f3n de sacarosa en agua, que ha sido estudiada a fondo. El \u00edndice de refracci\u00f3n de un refract\u00f3metro se puede escalar para que el valor indique directamente la sustancia seca en % RTS. En el caso de la sacarosa, esta unidad se denomina tambi\u00e9n Brix (abreviatura de Brix).<\/p>\n<p>La densidad de las muestras tambi\u00e9n puede determinarse refractom\u00e9tricamente.
